ASSIGNMENT 2

POSTER AND SEMINAR - CONTEMPORARY ISSUES IN ASIAN ARCHITECTURE

Task:

  • Based on the previous chosen site, identify the issues with the site, present potential solutions and provide a case study as well

  • Present findings in poster form and also a video presentation

With my teammates, we decided to focus on the architecture and place identity of Jalan Raja Bot and focusing on the problem of the potential loss of identity from tourism with the case study of Chatuchak Market, Bangkok.

We then created a poster with our findings as well as a video presentation.

Balancing Tourism and Place Identity Jalan Raja Bot Keeping authenticity in the midst of c

Reflection

During our project, my teammates and I put a lot of thought and effort to come up with ideas through countless meetings as we did our research. We eventually did come up with ideas and talked about different ways to solve the problem, trying to find a way to keep the place's identity strong but also make it welcoming for tourists. We studied a Chatuchak Market in Bangkok to learn more about how to keep a place true to itself even when lots of tourists visit. Making a poster helped us to properly illustrate what we found, and making a video presentation also really helped us express what we were trying to emphasize on. During the video editing process, I learned more about good video editing techniques as well as a tremendous amount of patience and effort being put into the editing video process. When we finished the project, I felt proud of my teammate and myself. I learned a lot about how places can change when lots of tourists come, and it made me appreciate the important balance between keeping a place special while also making it a good place for tourists to visit.
