Task:

  • To pick a physical site for site visit

  • To identify the physical contexts i.e. religious buildings, architecture facades and styles, shophouses, market and non-physical contexts i.e. traditional trades/businesses, local/ traditional cuisines, historical events, social institutions

  • Showcase our observations through a series of sketches in journal form

Choosing Jalan Raja Bot, Chow Kit as my chosen site, I did a site visit to the area to do observations

Then, I did a sketch journal based on the observations I made during my visit at Jalan Raja Bot.

Reflection

When I visited Jalan Raja Bot, I felt really amazed and interested in everything around me. The Sikh and Chinese temples made me feel respectful, and the market and narrow streets full of stalls reminded me of the true Malaysian culture here. The market was busy and showed how hardworking the people there are, and the food made me feel like I was part of their history and culture. I loved learning about the history and important places in the area, and it made me appreciate and admire the community who live there. It made me realize how important it is to keep our traditions and history alive because they bring us together as a community. The journaling aspect of this assignment also helped me gain a new skill and new perspective to document observations. After completing the journals, I've not only picked up new skills, improved old ones, but also learned a lot about a place I've never even heard before despite being Malaysian.
