ASSIGNMENT 2

BUILDING PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS REPORT

Based on the building design from Assignment 1, further developed our building design by analyzing its energy and environmental performance. We evaluated and proposed suitable design solutions to achieve an optimized green and energy-efficient building design.

We used relevant 6D BIM tools such as Autodesk Forma, Revit, Velux tools, and other analysis tools taught to us, to generate environmental performance simulations. We began by conducting a simulation study on the baseline schematic building design and critically analyzed the results. We thoroughly assessed these results and explored potential sustainable and green building design strategies to enhance energy performance.

To design an environmentally sustainable and energy-efficient building, we initially analyzed the ‘baseline performance of our schematic building design’ using appropriate simulation tools. The studies we conducted included:

  • Site Shadow Study

  • Solar Radiation/Sun Exposure Study

  • Daylighting Study (e.g., Daylight Factor, Solar Access, Illuminance Analysis, and/or Luminance Analysis)

  • Ventilation/Wind Flow Study

Based on the results of the simulations, we evaluated appropriate design solutions and further developed our building design considering various ‘green design strategies’ (passive and/or active), aiming to achieve an optimized building design scheme.

We then summarized the design alternatives and proposed the most optimal building design scheme by comparing the outcomes of building performance simulations before and after our design changes through a comparative study.
