ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN 4
ASSIGNMENT 3
NEIGHBORHOOD LEARNING CENTRE
We were to design a Neighbourhood Learning Centre within the proposed Neighbourhood Park Plan (Project P1A) at USJ14 Park. We provided full design proposals based on site analysis and precedent studies, creating narratives that responded to the environment and community. Our designs explored environmental poetics and utilized passive strategies for sustainable design, harmonizing with the site to foster a sense of community.

The Learning Centre required setbacks of 6m from the road and 3m from other boundaries. The building height varied between 2 to 3 storeys, with 900 sqm of net indoor space. Key programmatic spaces included classrooms, workshops, and community event areas. Supporting facilities encompassed storage, toilets, washrooms, and lockers. Outdoor learning spaces were also incorporated. Our design also ensured wheelchair access and included a drop-off area with five carparks, including two for disabled parking, integrated into the Neighbourhood Park Plan.

My Concept:
Young children of developing ages are constantly inquisitive, curious and explorative, learning through observations and senses - full of innocence and wonder. Living in an urban setting, children rarely have the opportunity to be explore their curiousity, especially towards nature.
Children of Eden is a neighborhood learning center located in a community park in USJ 14, Subang Jaya, deisgned to encourage active exploration and observation-based learning through the children’s inquisitiveness and their want to learn. This will be done through use of immersive environment made to simulate the natural world that sparks wonder in children. The learning center will have sensory rich experiences that allow the children to engage and get closer to nature in person. Children of Eden also has learning galleries, gardens and hands-on workshops with the main feauture of a elevated walkway spanning over a central courtyard that offers a different perspective at the same eye level as fruit trees. The goal is for children with their innate curiosity to pick up new knowledge throughout the center and apply them in the workshop - fostering empathy, environmental awareness, problem solving skills and nurtuting their love and wonder for the natural world.
