GENIUS LOCI - KAMPUNG MORTEN SITE ANALYSIS
Task:
-
After a site visit to Kampung Morten, Malacca, conduct historical research on the kampung using literature, old photographs, maps, etc. and map the site across significant stages in its history.

Compile findings into a 6-12 slide presentation and a 3-minute video with narration.

Collect and analyze site data on orientation, vegetation, climate, views, contours, noise, human-cultural activities, and more.

Produce drawings of the site, including site plan, sections, and a 1:500 scale model
-
Extract tangible and intangible aspects of the site
-
Present significant issues and the essence (genius loci) of the site
-
Address crucial site considerations for designing the Discovery Center with diagrams and drawings.
For individual task:

Sketch three abstract artworks (A6).

Sketch three serial views

Photograph three best views and three elements around the site
To start off with the macro site studies, we conducted research on Kampung's chronological history through visiting its galleries, interviewing its people and its literatures, as well as online research. We also researched its demographics, architectural styles and its surrounding contexts.
Then we analyzed the micro-site and its surrounding context as well
