STRUCTURE AND BODY
Task:
To build a functional 1:1 bamboo structure with a function that is assigned to the team.
Firstly, research the materiality of bamboo and how to join them. Also research on anthropometrics and ergonomics.
Explore ideas through mockup models.
Build the 1:1 structure based on our knowledge of bamboo, anthropometrics and ergonomics, construct a 1:1 bamboo structure to be put on site at Kebun Komuniti USJ2. Our structure also has to conform to the client at the park's needs and wants.
After the structure is complete, create presentation boards including the drawings of the structure to give the final presentation.
Our team was assigned the function Safekeeping.
To begin our process, we split ourselves into research, model and drawing teams. After constructing the mockups, we made a site visit to Kebun Komuniti @ USJ2. We took measurements and everything necessary, including talking to the client - the owner.

After the site visit, we made alterations to our design to accommodate the site e.g. building around the tree, as well as some requirements from the client. Then we settled on the final design.

We then had a professional bamboo expert to come demonstrate some safety protocols and ways to handle bamboo - such as this video where he demonstrates how to split bamboo into strips with a tool.
After the demonstration, it was time for us to get our hands dirty to actually start building the bamboo structure. We used various tools to split, slice, drill, cut and join the bamboo.

After a very very very short rest, it was back to work, composing the presentation boards and drawings. Then, finally presenting to the entire class and all the lecturers.
Finally, after two long, grueling weeks under the hot sun and cold rains, even working from sunrise to sunset to sunrise again without sleep, it was complete. Our entire bamboo comes to an end, although we had to make several adjustments and delays while building the 1:1 structure after encountering problems and realizing certain designs just weren't workable. But that's all part of the journey - adapting and come up with solutions to work around the problems.
